My Textile Adventure
My Personal Brand
Have you ever heard the saying that "change is as good as a holiday" ? there are a multitude of different ways to express the need for something different in life. Hi my name is anita and welcome to my textile journey.
For 18 enduring long years I have been a chef working for some of the biggest food chains in and around Brisbane until a close friend and mentor (who was also my high school Home Economics teacher) had an in depth conversation about schools struggling to find specialized teachers with real life experience for subjects like Home Economics.
During the conversation I was asked to consider undertaking a bachelor degree in Education to teach Home Economics. At first the thought of becoming a teacher petrified me as all I knew was how to cook. At the beginning of 2020 I took the leap it the unknown scared and excited about my future and where it might lead me. After a year of up and downs in 2021, Covid19, losing my dad to cancer, starting a new job, I feel as if I am on the right path and enjoying my new found passion.
So its now 2022, we have all endured the lovely Covid19 pandemic, I am in my third of studying and absolutely loving every new thing I learn. I am currently working at a local school teaching Hospitality and Home Economics in all its glory working along side some of the best in the business and continuing to learn.
Some of the most relevant and important things that I have learned over the past six months are that building ethical and foundational relationships with learners are paramount in the educational contexts. They are one of the lead stakeholder in our business, the reason why we choose to work along side them and pass on our passion and experiences. I have learnt that listening and showing interest in students hobbies and passions helps their engagement in learning experiences also aids in behaviour management within the classroom.
